IGNORANT STYLE

IGNORANT STYLE

Rebellion against the rules dressed in a maximally simplified form. This is how you could briefly describe tattoos created in the ignorant style trend. This – still controversial for many – style has become one of the most popular in the last decade, especially among the young generation. Some time ago it was associated with the underground, but today it reigns more and more in the mainstream. Despite the fact that the ignorant is often associated with the Ukrainian or German tattoo scene, the French graffiti artist known as Fuzi Uvtrk is considered to be its pioneer. In the 1990s, Fuzi founded an anti-capitalist group called UV (ultra violent). As the normalization of graffiti increasingly influenced free expression over time, Fuzi began to transfer street art to the skin. In the early 2000s, he became an ignorant tattoo artist and gained worldwide fame by tattooing celebrities such as Scarlett Johansson. It was Fuzi who first began to depart from the standard tattooing and showed the next generation that art can take many forms. It turned out that the idea can be more important than the technique, and uneven lines - the new trend.

Ignorant style – characteristics

Ignorant style was supposed to be free, wild, without rules. Fuzi himself, when asked about the trend he started, said: "Ignorant was based on the beginnings of graffiti in New York and was supposed to look as if it was made by a child who is just learning the art - naive but pure." Ignorant style tattoos are usually very simple designs, limited to the contour, done in black ink, looking like DYI. And indeed - they are often done at home, using DIY methods, although recently more and more artists of this style can be found in professional tattoo studios.

Ignorant tattoo artists draw from street art and deliberately reject complex plastic forms. Color is very rarely used here - it has to be simple, natural and beyond all schemes. However, don't let this fool you, because very often they have a lot of work in their hands, but they prefer to show their expression by rebelling against the established rules. The most important thing about the ignorant is a controversial message or, on the contrary, a complete lack of it, because thanks to this you can show a simple message. Ignorant tattoos often have a humorous overtone, with a grain of salt, and many would think that they were made on the spur of the moment or impulse. There are cartoon motifs, all kinds of inscriptions (sometimes also vulgar) and fun with a simple, uneven line that refers to a specific story or a popular theme. Some ignorant people can be associated with prison tattoos or a Russian tattoo. This is not a wrong association, because many modern tattoo artists going towards the ignorant draw inspiration from various underground practices. Ignorant style rejects the rules and classics, which is why it often shocks and still remains the most controversial direction.

Ignorant style – artists

Artists experimating with the ignorant pop up like mushrooms. This is especially noticeable among the young generation. However, on the world tattoo scene, we already have quite a few names that are 100% associated with this style. Among the famous tattoo artists in the ignorant style are: Fuzi, Arbelle, Charlie Solis, Kiril Nekrasov, Gaya Kolman, Chris Woodhead, Dima Yegorov.
